What can we expect from EU-US trade relations?

December 20, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

The United States and the European Union trade goods and services with each other at a value of $1.3 trillion (€1.2 trillion) a year. The transatlantic trade supports around 16 million jobs on both sides of the Atlantic. Yet, there is no trade agreement between the two. The negotiations of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) were buried in 2016. Since May 2021, the two partners have met regularly in the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) to coordinate approaches to global trade, economic, and technology issues. It has not delivered much when it comes to concrete outcomes, however.

Elections are approaching in the United States in November and in the European Union in June, and both can result in new leaders. Will the TTC survive? What could and should happen when it comes to facilitating trade between the two? With the next meeting coming up at the beginning of next year, what is on the wish list for Christmas from a business point of view?
